Good morning, Philly fans! It is a good morning knowing the New York Giants lost but, unfortunately, that means the Dallas Cowboys won. With the exception of a pop-up shower or two in the morning/midday, the weather in Philadelphia looks nice. Highs are expected to reach 87 degrees. Today is an off day for the Phillies as they return home tomorrow to welcome the Colorado Rockies to town.

The Phillies ended their six game road trip yesterday afternoon in Cincinnati. The Phillies sent Roy Halladay to the mound for the early 12:35 pm first pitch. The Reds were given a boost before the game as 2010 NL MVP Joey Votto returned to the lineup. The Phillies jumped on Reds pitcher Mike Leake early. After a Dom Brown single in the third inning, Erik Kratz came up with two runners on and drove a Leake pitch into the left field seats for a three run home run. Chase Utley came up in the following inning with a two run homerun of his own. That would be all Doc needed as he went 7 1/3 innings allowing just one run on eight hits. The Phillies finished their road trip 4-2. More here.

For those still holding out slim hopes of the Phillies making a magical push for the second Wild Card, the Mets-Cardinals game was of interest. The Mets jumped out to an early 2-1 lead before scoring 3 in the fifth inning to give them a 5-1 lead. That is all Mets starter R.A. Dickey would need as he went 6 2/3 en route to becoming Major League Baseball’s first 18 game winner. The loss brings the Phillies to within 8 games of the Cardinals. More here.

Football is officially back! The NFL kicked off its regular season last night with a primetime NFC East matchup. The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants welcomed the Dallas Cowboys to the Meadowlands. For those that watched the game, the first three quarters were pretty underwhelming. The fourth quarter got a little interesting as both teams found the endzone and sustained decent drives. All in all, the performances of both teams were not enough to strike any fear into the hearts of Eagles fans. The Cowboys went on to win the game 24-17. It was the first time in 12 years that the defending Super Bowl champions lost their first game the following year. More here.

Legendary NFL owner Art Modell passed away this morning at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He was 87 years old. Modell was the famous owner of the Cleveland Browns and, in 1996, moved the team to Baltimore when they ultimately became the Baltimore Ravens. Modell won the Super Bowl with the Ravens in January 2001 and won a NFL Championship with the Browns in 1964. His biggest impact on the game of football was the negotiation of television contracts in the 1960s and 1970s. The most influential contract he negotiated was the one between the NFL and ABC which ultimately lead to Monday Night Football. More here.

The New York Giants clinched the NFC East division title with a 31-14 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys played absolutely terrible on national television and, once again, the underachieving Cowboys will have their season end with expectation unmet. More here.

Sources are reporting that former Eagles defensive assistant and current Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo will be fired today by the Rams. Sources last week reported that the Eagles would express interest in bring Spagnuolo back to the Eagles as Defensive Coordinator. More here.

The Jets lost 19-17 to the Dolphins yesterday ended up 8-8 with a 3 game losing streak and missing the playoffs. Offensive captain Santonio Holmes reportedly quit on the team and was benched at the end of the game. After the game when asked if he would return to the Jets next season, Holmes walked away from the podium and ending his press conference. More here.

Happy Monday! Steak and Eggs for a hearty breakfast!

The Eagles are still in the hunt for a division title. Yes, you read that correctly. The Eagles pieced together a sloppy 26-10 win in Miami yesterday over the Dolphins. Michael Vick threw for 208 yards. Lesean McCoy rushed 27 times for only 38 yards. Coupled with a Cowboys loss to the Giants, the Eagles are still alive. Up next for the Eagles are the New York Jets next week. More here.

As we said, the Giants came back late against the Dallas Cowboys. Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul blocked the potential game tying FG from Dan Bailey (who made the first attempt but Tom Coughlin- not Jason Garrett froze him just before the snap). Giants won 37-34. People are saying Eli is better than his brother Peyton because of what he did. Peyton, for the record, is still better. More here.

The Tim Tebow magic continues. Tebow leads Broncos from down 10-0 with 2:08 remaining in the fourth quarter to a 13-10 victory with Broncos kicker Matt Prater hitting a 59 yarder to tie the game and send it to OT. More here.

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are good. Real good. 13-0 good. They poured it on the Raiders yesterday, 46-16. They are the real deal. More here.

The Houston Texans, missing Mario Williams, Andre Johnson, and Matt Schaub, clinched their first ever playoff berth yesterday by clinching the AFC South division title in a 20-19 win over the Bengals in Cincinnati behind 300 yards from Texans rookie QB T.J. Yates. More here.

Tim Tebow's hazing
Rookie Hazing. Earn your stripes. These training camp traditions take place on some teams but not on others. Rookie hazing does not happen, to the knowledge of the public, with the Philadelphia Eagles but it does in New England. Look no further than Ryan Mallett having to carry Tom Brady’s pads off the field yesterday. Jason Garrett will not allow rookies to have stars on their helmets until they earn them. Does anyone else see the issues with all of this or is it just me…..
