Looking at the Explorers
The Explorers are out of an easy win over Roman Catholic. In the game, the offense steam rolled the RC defense as expected. Syaire Madden ran for 3 touchdowns and easily got around. The Explorers didn't throw the ball very much last week, but Chris Ferguson still ended up with a touchdown to Sr. Kyle Johnson. Furthermore, it has been noticed that La Salle is trying to work Sophmore Isaiah Jones (QB, SS) into the QB rotation and get him some experience. Jones is a transfer this year and is an all around quarterback. He played very well in the Prep game including a 49 yard QB draw and an interception on defense. Last week, he ran for 1 TD on a handful of snaps. In the air, the Explorers are still without Sr. wideout Winston Eubanks. The senior is likely out until the first round of the playoffs. Moreover, this week La Salle will try to pick apart the Judge defense. I have a feeling they will mainly do it on the ground but we could see some action through the air as well. They will need a consistent game from Madden and Ferguson throughout the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, La Salle looked great against RC. They only allowed 14 points and less than 140 yards. Jr. Austin Lemke shined once again with a forced fumble and good number of tackles. Sr. Kohler Setley also held the RC offense in the air and recovered a fumble (almost ran it in for a TD). This week the defense will need to be solid. The need to be careful letting up big plays to Judge QB Rob King. He likes to look for short plays and sometimes will take off. Furthermore, this week expect the defensive line to rush King a lot. Sr. Matt McDermott and Anthony Piscopo will be hungry and ready to rush.
Looking at the Crusaders
The Father Judge offense is solid one. They are led by Sr. tailback Josh Williams. Williams, a 5-8 170b pound kid, who likes to swing his runs to the outside a lot. He will power it up the gut when he needs to and will be looking for a bunch of break through runs. At the quarterback position, Judge has Jr. Rob King. King likes to play with little check down completions a lot of the time to the tight end or a slot receiver. They also love the screen pass and he will throw a lot on the run. Furthermore, watch out for King's read-option. Him and Williams will use this ever so often for big gains. They are tricky in what they like to do and can do it all; on the ground and in the air. At wide receiver, Judge carry's Jr. Jim Newbert, So. Nick Conway, Jr. Justin Gies, and Sr. Zach Gindraw. Williams likes to use all of his targets both down the field and on short plays. In order for Judge to get passed the La Salle defense, they will need to utilize blockers down field on screens and will need to run the read-option a lot.
On defense, the Crusaders are well kept. They are led by Sr. OLB and SS Nick Douglass. The 6-0 195lb senior is a big body clogging up the middle of the field. With him at linebacker is Sean Coyle (MLB, OLB). They both will be looking to sop the Sy Madden runs up the middle. In the secondary, Justin Gies is a big threat to shut down Ferguson's deep field action. Judge likes to shut down the middle of the field a lot and sometimes will over haul inside the hash marks. To end, the Explorers will need to swing the ball to the outside a lot and give Ferguson sometime to make a move.
After looking at both teams, I can see the Explorers offense cutting the FJ defense right in half. Sigher Madden will have a big night along with Chris Ferguson. While, FJ is a very good team, they just don't have the defensive skills to stop La Salle. The La Salle defense is also very solid. They will prevent Judge's Williams from doing his thing. In conclusion, the Explorers will prevail and feat on Father Judge. Im calling it 24- 10 La Salle.
