Strong words said by Pennsbury senior guard Cameron Jones, as the Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game. Turns out, the Explorers had no problem guarding Jones on their way to a 57-44 victory over the Pennsbury Falcons. Yet another huge statement win for the Explorers, showing that their potential as a team can lead to big things.
The funny thing? Coach Dempsey, doesn't think their good enough yet. In the post game locker room chat, Dempsey remarked that he was proud of the team, but they still aren't executing. If this Explorer team isn't executing now, it is scary how good they could be.
Senior Dave Krmpotich and junior Shane Stark led the way for the Explorers down low. Between the two, they absolutely shut down senior forward, St. Bonaventure commit, Derrick Woods, only allowing him to score nine. They finished with 15 boards, four blocks, and 25 points between the two. Stark finished with 12 points, seven boards, and two blocks, while Krmpotich finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, and also two blocks. The two dominated down low across the game.
Up front, senior guard Shawn Witherspoon is proving himself to be an elite guard in the PCL. The senior led the Explorers in points once again with 14 points, but also continued his dominant defensive effort, shutting down Cameron Jones throughout the game. Jones finished with 13 points, but had only five heading into the fourth quarter. Fellow senior guard Najee Walls started his first game of the season and added three points, three rebounds, and four assists. Once Walls is at full strength, the Explorers will be an extremely dangerous team.
Pennsbury's Mekhi Bryant led the team with 15 points to lead the team. Pennsbury had a lot of trouble getting going, as the Explorers provided constant pressure and forced turnovers throughout the game. The Explorers are impressing more and more people around the league with their constant defensive pressure, athleticism, and offensive execution. Coach Dempsey is lining up his team for another successful season and doing it perfectly.
The Explorers move on to play New Media Charter School on Monday, 12/15 at 5pm, in their home opener of the season.
