Starting at the guard spots will most likely be returning seniors Sean Witherspoon and Najee Walls. Both players compliment each other very well as Walls, at 6'0, is a more spot up shooter, while the 6'1 Witherspoon excels at getting to the rim. Witherspoon has improved his driving and finishing ability and carries the ball with a lot more confidence compared to last year. The Explorers may perhaps run three guards with senior Dan Corr getting in the mix as well adding a three point threat.
The Explorers will look to replace graduate Jalen Herdsman in the starting role. I am really unsure who will get the final nod to start, but there are two that are mostly set in stone. Senior David Krmpotich at 6'8 and 6'4 junior Shane Stark will be on the court to start the game. Krmpotich is a versatile big man that can take opposing big men to the rim or threaten them with an outside shot. Stark is an excellent offensive option who has proved to be able to play big and finish in traffic. Also competing for a starting spot was 6'4 junior Ryan McTamney who has shown a lot of development and has added a nice outside touch.
Another thing the Explorers have going for them is depth, especially at the guard position. Sophomore Jarrod Stukes and Matt Paulus will get a good amount of varsity minutes as they continue to grow and improve their game. Seniors Mike Crone and Pat Meenan are two sharpshooters that can come off the bench in certain situations to add a deep threat. Matt Dessner, a 6'5 senior, will play some valuable minutes in relief of Stark or Krmpotich adding a more natural big man to the game. Beyond that, seniors Charlie Hemcher and Kevin Crozier could come in at a moments notice to add more defensive lock down. The Explorers' bench is as crucial a part of the team as the starters.
Coatesville will look towards last year's leading scorer to pull a majority of its work in senior Kevin Crutchfield who averaged 14 points/game and was selected to first team All Chesmont. Crutchfield is a speedy guard who has a nice touch at finishing at the rim. Joining him in the back court will be the only other returning starter from last year, Jon Lott. Lott was able to contribute in a limited amount last season, so it will be up to these two to lead the rest of the young Coatesville team.
The frontcourt will be led by juniors Dondre Pittman and Justus Martinez. Pittman is a very athletic, defensive minded player that has no issue finishing above the rim. Martinez, at 6'6 280lbs, is a big body on the floor looking to stonewall any attempts the Explorers look to put together. Senior bigman Jacob Rouse could also be looked to fill in as well.
With Coatesville graduating six seniors from last year's team, it is unsure what young player will be able to step up. Senior John Rodriguez will be Coatesville's essential sixth man or starter depending on the day. Senior Amir Ealey has limited varsity experience as well, but will look to contribute on the court. Coatesville might have to rely on the limited varsity experience that the starting five will have to look to compete against the Explorers.
