Grantland's Zach Lowe ranked the entire NBA by team name and the Sixers actually finished high on the board - very high, in fact. Lowe put the 76ers in the "Very Best" category by ranking them second in the NBA, behind only the Portland Trail Blazers.
Lowe loves the fantastic "76" reference to the city of Philadelphia citing the events in 1776 such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. He marvels at the use of the patriotic 13 stars above the "7" in the logo representing the original 13 colonies. Another brilliant observation was the reference to "76" and how most major highways in the area: I-76, 476, and 676 all incorporate the number "76" which makes the team name all the more appropriate.
Well at least 76ers fans can take solace in knowing that they have a pretty awesome team name with very popular jerseys. It won't help when LeBron James & Co. come to town but still, you catch my drift.
