On Friday reports surfaced that Golden was set to interview for the vacant head coaching position at Penn State with one South Florida report citing sources that Golden had been offered the job at Penn State.
On Sunday, Golden released a statement on the Hurricanes website stating he is not a candidate for any other head coaching position.
There has been much speculation concerning my future at the University of Miami. While I am flattered that our progress at The U during an extremely difficult period of time is recognized, I am also appreciative of just what we have here at UM and I am not a candidate for another position. We are eager to welcome our student athletes back to campus next week and visit with prospective student-athletes and their families beginning January 15.
I guess always leaving the door somewhat open.
Golden is a Penn State guy having played tight end for the Nittany Lions from 1987-1991 then coaching their linebackers in 2000. His work at Temple turned them from a 1-11 team to a 9-4 team that played in a bowl game. At Miami, he is 22-15 taking them from 6-6 to a team to a 9-4 team last season.
