The team announced on Friday they have signed Swiss defenseman Christian Marti to an entry-level contract. Marti, who turned 22 on March 29th, played 32 games for Genève-Servette of the Swiss-A league this season but missed time due to a shoulder injury. The 6'3", 210 lbs. defenseman scored one goal and added seven assists for eight points in his 32 games.
He sounds like the ideal prospect for the Flyers based on his scouting report (via Elite Prospects).
Possesses a rare combination of size and mobility. Christian Marti, with his skill and long reach, has perfect shutdown abilities. Battles hard along the boards and will not quit until he has the puck. Plays with a lot intensity, as Marti loves to throw out punishing hits. He needs to work on his consistency and try to avoid defensive woes. Has untapped offensive abilities and owns a booming shot from the point, which makes him a reliable option for a power play unit. This signing looks to be low risk, high reward for the Flyers who have found some gems overseas the last two years with Michael Raffl and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare.
