Fall is the time of year where college girls and points spreads both get a little heavier. This was the week of overs across the NCAA...should have been a $2,000 weekend for like minded bettors. We are now in the segment of the season where you can do a lot of damage with totals. Before we go any further this week. I won't be discussing the Texas Tech/Baylor Total of 89. Books can't make spreads high enough for a game like this. Uncle Radar and I agree this game will likely fall by kickoff. So if you want to get action on it play under 89, wait for it to drop closer to game time and play over 83/84. I'm going to try to middle the game but won't be releasing a pick on the blog.
One thing all of the touts who sell you their picks talk about is money management. How many "units" they bet on a game. "500 Big Units Play on the Vikings!" or "My system is + 4,732.68 units over the last 3,135 days!" It's all salesmanship. Here's the way I look at betting. If you like a game, take it. That's all. Betting 5 units on Marshall, 10 units on Texas Tech that's not for me. No one is telling you that you need to bet $1,000 over the weekend and spread it out of 7 games. Bet games you like, avoid the ones you are trying to force a pick out of, and when you win a couple start to bet heavier. Never walk away when your on the heater! If you need someone to tell you when you've lost too much money, gambling isn't for you. Know when you are beat. Finally don't pay someone for their opinion, learn to analyze the game and try to find a light line (or college girl) to pursue. If you really need to pay for insight I accept paypal, venmo, and bitcoin once I figure out what the hell it is.
Memphis Team Total OVER 35 - The Tigers have been a fun team to watch this season. They play fast and have a strong ground game that opens up the pass. On the other side South Florida hasn't shown the ability to stop teams defensively. The Bulls offense struggles big time in the passing game. If they run successfully on Memphis this game could be a grind, but I don't see it happening. The Tigers are off to a 4-0 season and are starting to make a name for themselves. Even with the Bulls going against a soft defense you could count on former USF Alum Jason Pierre Paul's weird hand how many times they will score. 2 fingers and a knuckle? Sounds like my prom.
Bowling Green Team Total OVER 38 - I'm riding this team till the wheels come off. They travel to Buffalo to play a team that gave up 27 to my Nittany Lions. I love a little MACtion and BGSU is my team. Matt Johnson and his weird beard are coming off wins against 2 Big Ten teams and looking to keep making it onto Sportscenter with 1:45 70 yard drives that put up 7. 38 seems like a high number until the game is 35-13 @ Half. Take BGSU to strike fast and cover the 38
Western Kentucky -7 @ Rice. Fresh off a 70-17 loss at Baylor, The Rice Owls finally play a team from outside of Texas. With that, a little luster is gone from the game. The home team gets fired up to play the big brother Long Horns, Bears, and even Mean Green. Rice gave up an average of 45 points per game during that stretch. WKU doesn't make it any easier. The reason we are going spread vs team total is this game doesn't have the same appeal as next weeks gave vs Middle Tennessee State for the Hilltoppers. I'm expecting to see a 42-17 game that WKU runs out a 4th quarter before returning home.
California @ Washington State OVER 71. October 4th 2014 I introduced my dear friend Greg to the 3 way. We double teamed Cougars and the rest was history. By Cougars of course I mean Washington State (not 40 year old women from Craigslist) and their game against the Cal Bears on that fateful day. 60-59 final, the game and both team totals hit about 90 seconds into the 3rd quarter and Greg repeatedly told the bar to "turn the tv off, this game is over!" Washington St. isn't quite the team they used to be with Halliday at QB but this game is still ripe for an over. Luke Falk is no slouch and Cal should score in bunches, but as they usually do they will let this team hang around. 48-38 would be a typical way for this game to end.
Dolphins/Jets OVER 41 - if this game was played in the States it would be an under. 9:30 AM on Sunday these teams take the field across the pond and the NFL continues its push to get the sport big overseas. There are a few things we do much better than our friends over there. Dentistry and a sport that involves scoring are two that jump out. If you watch the game these Limeys all run out and buy NFL jerseys. Most of the fans are wearing jerseys of teams that aren't even playing. Some Manchester United Hooligan will be there wearing a Cardinals jersey because its close to United's colors. Anyway in order to grow the popularity of the game the NFL needs points. 17-13 doesn't put asses in the seats. It's a 34-31 game that gets their britches a little more snug in the front. Drive extending penalties like marginal Pass interference calls really help. Roger wants a team in London one day, and high scoring games are the way to do it. For you EPL fans out there, I hope you are watching the Men in Blazers show, its great stuff.
Having lived in South Florida for 25 years I'm very well acquainted with hurricanes. Having said that I would suggest you check the east coast weather before getting down this weekend. Although Jim Cantore and the Weather Channel crew like to scare the public often overrating a storm, you don't want to be involved in a game where weather is a huge factor. Look for Touchy's tweets for east coast games over the weekend, once the storm can be better evaluated. So as of now I'm looking mid west and left coast where weather won't be a factor. I once rode out a storm in the Caymans with Peter O'Tool, Richard Harris, and Helen Mirren, who were there shooting on location. We needed a case of Johnnie Black, and a keg of Guinness to make it through. I was 0-6 betting English Premier League. Cheers
THE MOST INTERESTING 18 YEAR OLD IN THE WORLD
He can discuss Darwinism with Richard Dawkins, paranormal activities with Sam Harris, philosophy with Daniel Dennett, theoretical physics with Steven Hawking, and has the urbane articulate voice of the late Christopher Hitchens, he's Josh Rosen the most interesting 18 yr. old in the world.I can tell you none of those guys can play quarterback like this kid. Uncle Radar just can't get enough of this freshman QB and is going to ride him again this week with a team total play on UCLA . Not posted as of this writing it should be around 37. Last year the Bruins put 62 on the Sun Devils, 33 in '14 and 45 in '13. I'm seeing a trend. The UCLA D gave up 353 yards last week and Jr. is pissed. He will lean on his offense to score because he needs point differential to get into the playoffs."PLAYOFFS DON'T TALK ABOUT PLAYOFFS"
