Madden 15 released some of their ratings for players this week and one of the most surprising ratings ever came from a player that is currently at Eagles training camp. Place kicker Carey Spear, who is likely to be one of the first players cut, came into camp trying to unseat Alex Henery as the new Eagles kicker so the fine folks at Madden needed to assign some ratings.
Spear, who is nicknamed "Murderleg," was highlighted when he signed as an undrafted free agent following the NFL draft in May. Here's the thing, what jumped off the video tape when watching Spear wasn't really his kicking abilities but his ability to level opposing players. Simply put: the guy can hit people.
Back to the ratings, his kicking ratings aren't anything special but his hitting ability was off the charts. He was assigned a 73 rating for hitting, the highest ever for a place kicker in the history of the video game. His rating was higher than All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman (65), Osi Umenyiora (65) and Darnell Dockett (68).
Donny Moore, the man who sets the ratings for Madden, explained to Bleacher Report the reasoning behind Spear's high rating.
Unfortunately that has not translated well to the NFL as Henery's job looks safe for now.
Madden 15 is slated to be released on August 26th.
