“The Phillies, who could use another outfielder, remain an obvious choice.”
Carfado says that the Mariners are out of the running with the acquisition of Mike Morse from the Nationals. He says that the Mets remaining a possibility as do the Yankees who are never out of the running for any free agent.
What would Bourn mean in the Phillies outfield? It would mean that they would be forced to make a decision because it is clear that Bourn and Ben Revere would have two of the spots, with Bourn most likely in centerfield. That would leave Domonic Brown, John Mayberry Jr., Darin Ruf, and Laynce Nix all battling for the remaining corner outfield spot.
Bourn, 30, is a Scott Boras client which means his price is high. It is likely lowering as there are far fewer suitors. Would the price drop into the range where the Phillies would pay? That remains to be seen. Bourn hit .274 with nine homeruns, 57 RBI, and 42 stolen bases last year for the Braves. It would certainly make the outfield speedy.
