Case in point.
MLB.com's Paul Casella reports that following his press conference to announce the three-year, $26 million deal he signed with the Phillies, Ruiz raced to a fire house in Washington Township, New Jersey to surprise a six-year-old little boy who had been diagnosed with Stage IV Leukemia. Ruiz said it was "by far the most important" thing on his calendar for Thursday.
The boy and his family were brought to tears by his surprise appearance along with the Phillie Phanatic. Ruiz then thanked the firefighters and everyone in attendance for allowing him to be part of the special night.
This is just a great story. Our thoughts and prayers are with six-year-old Aiden Riebel as he continues his courageous fight.
