The Phillies Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, announced that the 32-year old has officially been added to their roster and will start on Thursday against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders [sic].
Zambrano's history is well-documented and his reputation as a less-than-stellar teammate certainly precedes him. But, all things considered, Zambrano has been a model citizen since signing with the Phillies on May 15th. In addition to his behavior, Zambrano has pitched well in his three minor league starts.
In two starts at Single-A Clearwater, he pitched 10.1 innings without allowing a run and allowed just seven hits while walking four and striking out five batters. In one start at Double-A Reading, he went six innings allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking three batters. Overall, he is 2-0 while posting a 0.55 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in three minor league starts with the Phillies organization.
He has a opt-out clause in his deal that allows him to opt-out of his contract, should he so desire, on July 1st.
