Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was asked on the WIP Morning Show on Monday morning whether the Eagles would consider starting Matt Barkley over Mark Sanchez on Sunday against the New York Giants. His response was to the point, "Nah, Mark's our quarterback."
The Eagles are officially eliminated from playoff contention and Barkley, a fourth-round pick in 2013, has attempted one pass all season. It's difficult to imagine a scenario in which Sanchez is back in Philadelphia taking meaningful snaps next year so Sunday seems like the perfect time to see what Barkley can do over the course of a full game in the NFL.
Sanchez, 28, completed a career-high 64.1% of his passes for 2,126 yards, 12 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and seven fumbles in eight games (seven starts) with the Eagles. Philadelphia went 3-4 in Sanchez's starts after Nick Foles went down with a broken collarbone on November 2nd.
