The Washington Post spoke with Lakers guard Kobe Bryant about his career and the subject of the 1996 draft came about. The Post's Michael Lee asked Bryant if he was interested in joining to the Wizards a decade ago to play in the Eastern Conference when Bryant mentioned his grudge with the 76ers.
“A little bit. But I was really upset the Sixers didn’t take me No. 1 in ’96. Because I’m in their back yard. I was a little [bitter] about that. Still am a little bit. I’m a competitor, right? They viewed Allen [Iverson] as being a better player than me, so that was something that always fueled me.”
Can't help but imagine what the Sixers outlook would have been with Bryant instead of Iverson. It's not like the Sixers ended up with some slouch of a player.
