Former Sixers G Nick Young Celebrates Hitting a Three-Pointer That He Didn't Hit

I love these Xbox Photoshopped pictures (Photo: @Steve_Os/Twitter)
The Lakers beat the Knicks by 31 points last night but it could've been even worse.

Former Sixers guard, and current Laker, Nick Young rose up for a three-point shot last night that looked good and he turned to celebrate the shot. Unfortunately for him, the shot rimmed out as he turned around to celebrate.
This is hilarious because I don't think you should be celebrating three-pointers unless its at the end of the game and you're winning or tying the game with the shot.

But, then again, that's just "Swaggy P."

The Sixers beat the Knicks 110-106 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

It turns out, the Knicks were trying to beat themselves by allowing players Andrea Bargnani to do this....
Ouch. Bargnani is now out indefinitely after tearing ligaments in his left elbow on the landing.

Add in the blow to the ego - double whammy.

Sixers @ KNicks

76ers - The Sixers have struggled to score against the Knicks lately as they have not score 100 points in six straight games against New York and eight of their last nine. Lately, Philadelphia has struggled on the road losing three straight after winning four straight road games. After their four-game winning streak, the Sixers have gone 1-7. One thing they've done well as a team is play well when forcing overtime as they are 4-1 in overtime games and 6-2 in games decided by five points or less.

Knicks - The Knicks have won eight of the last 10 matchups against the Sixers, including four of the last five games at Madison Square Garden. Overall at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks are 115-88 against the Sixers. In the first matchup against the Sixers this season, Amar'e Stoudemire had one of his best games of the seasons dropping 21 points and grabbing five rebounds. New York has not lost a season series to Philadelphia since 2008-09.

Key matchup:

Picture
Sixers SF Evan Turner
18.3 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 3.7 APG

Turner, 25, is coming off a relatively quiet game against the Wizards scoring 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds. He has scored 11 or fewer points in each of the last three games. His scoring has fallen off of late as he has scored more than 12 points just twice in the last seven games. In 12 career games against the Knicks, Turner is averaging 12.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

Picture
Knicks SF Carmelo Anthony
26.1 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 3.0 APG

Anthony, 29, is continuing to have a fine season in New York despite the struggles of the rest of the team. Anthony is coming off a strong performance against the Nets scoring 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. He hasn't scored less than 18 points in a game since November 10th. In 21 career games against the Sixers, Anthony is averaging 24.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm at Madison Square Garden in New York. The game can be seen on Comcast Sportsnet and heard on 97.5 The Fanatic.

The Morning Beat: May 4th

5/4/2012

Picture
Good morning! Today’s high in Philadelphia is supposed to be 86 degrees with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Big sports news today out of New Jersey and New York.

The Flyers went up to Newark for Gam3 against the Devils with the series tied at one game apiece. The Flyers scored first which has proved to be the kiss of death so far in the playoffs. The Flyers were 1-3 entering last night when scoring first. The Devils would take a 2-1 lead after scoring 20 second apart. After going back and forth on the next three goals, they would head to overtime. With just over two minutes left in the first overtime, Alexei Ponikarovsky beat Ilya Bryzgalov after a juicy rebound to give the Devils the 4-3 overtime win and 2-1 series lead. The loss drops the Flyers to 1-4 when scoring first and 4-0 when the opponent scores first. More here.

The Phillies had a very early start yesterday afternoon in Atlanta as first pitch was slated for 12:10 pm. If you missed the first pitch, you probably missed the entire game. The game moved at a blistering pace and ended with the Phillies winning 4-0 in just two hours and two minutes. Joe Blanton threw his first complete game shutout in a Phillies uniform as he mowed down the Braves hitters needing just 88 pitches over nine innings. More here.

As happy as the New York/New Jersey fans were when the Devils won is how upset they would be over the following hour. The Miami Heat all but eliminated the New York Knicks last night. The Heat took it to the Knicks as they opened up a commanding lead early and won by a score of 87-70. The win gave the Heat a 3-0 series lead and it appears that the Knicks have all but packed it in. More here.

As if the Knicks losing wasn’t enough, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was injured during batting practice. Rivera was shagging fly balls in the outfield when he was running down a ball when his knee gave out. According the New York Yankees, Rivera has suffered a torn ACL. The typical recovery from an ACL tear is 9 months which has many wondering whether this is the end of a career for the 42 year old closer. More here.

Why "LINsanity" has to stop. Now.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.  This was only supposed to be a story every few nights on SportsCenter.  Now it’s turned into a national media frenzy.  It's everywhere.  Jeremy Lin has officially taken over the sports world, as well as late-night TV, and news outlets, much like that of a certain quarterback out in Denver this year.  People are paying attention, and so are we here at Whiz Wit, even if it’s a very reluctant attentiveness.

The Knicks are now 15-15 after their current 7 game wining streak, and still five games behind the first place 76ers.  This little known guard from Harvard University has played a huge role in their recent success.  Jeremy Lin is good, but the media is making him out to be Michael Jordan good. But the hype over LINsanity is starting to become ridiculously nauseating, and it needs to stop.  Here’s why.
