PHILS OFFENSE EXPLODES IN 14-8 WIN OVER THE METS
The Phillies (53-80) defeated the Mets (73-59) to snap their 10-game skid against their division rival in a offensive explosion, 14-8. The Phils scored five runs in the 3rd to get a 5-0 lead and scored another in the 5th against starter Jonathan Niese before Aaron Harang gave up four runs of his own, including a two-run homer from Yoenis Cespedes, in the bottom of the inning before he was relieved.
The Phillies would strike back with eight runs off the Met bullpen, which showed signs of concerns with Bobby Parnell, Eric O'Flaherty, and Carlos Torres giving up all eight runs in the troubling 6th. RF Darnell Sweeney went two-for-five with three RBI and scored two runs of his own, while 1B Darin Ruf went three-for-five with six RBI, all of which came with two outs, and his 7th homer of the season.
Jeanmar Gomez got the win (2-3) as he went two innings and gave up two runs on five hits and a strikeout. Niese got the loss (8-10) and went five innings as he gave up six runs on seven hits and struck out two.
The rubber match is tonight at 7:10 (TV: CSN; Radio: WPHT/WIP). Aaron Nola (5-1, 3.26 ERA) gets the start for the Phillies against New York's Matt Harvey (11-7, 2.48 ERA). (REPORT)
KIKO ALONSO, JOSH HUFF EXPECTED TO PLAY THURSDAY
Surprise, surprise with Kiko. The linebacker was supposed to make his debut last Saturday in Green Bay, but the Oregon product missed the game due to a nagging leg injury. He told reporters Tuesday that he was going to make his debut and get in for a few series, which is very important. Similar to QB Sam Bradford, Alonso missed all of last season with an ACL injury during an offseason workout.
Josh Huff is also expected to play Thursday after missing Saturday's game due to the recent death of his god brother. He said his mind was somewhere else when he returned to the NovaCare Complex last Thursday, but he told reporters that he expects to play Thursday as well.
'NOVA RB PRODUCT KEVIN MONANGAI CUT, ROSTER AT 75
Former Villanova running back Kevin Monangai was one of three players that were moved from the active roster on Tuesday, as the former Wildcat was cut. The Eagles also officially placed rookie cornerback JaCorey Shepherd on injured reserve after tearing an ACL during camp, and waived linebacker Emmanuel Acho after suffering a hand injury that requires surgery.
Monangai had 10 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown in the second preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. So along with the battle for the third QB spot between Matt Barkley and the prophet Tim Tebow, expect another showdown at running back between Kenjon Barner and Raheem Mostert. It might come down to special teams with both. (REPORT)

The Flyers and Washington Capitals have played in seven rookie games against each other dating back to 2007. It won't happen again in 2015, according to Phantoms radio broadcaster Bob Rotruck, via Bill Meltzer. The Caps have decided to be a part of a rookie camp tournament in South Florida. Washington would have hosted this season's version if it happened, but it won't. The Flyers won five out of the seven contests, including the last three. No word on if the team will find a new partner for a rookie scrimmage this fall. (REPORT)

'SUPERFLY' SNUKA CHARGED WITH GIRLFRIEND'S DEATH
I wasn't born when 'Superfly' was one of the World Wrestling Federation's top stars, mainly because he was a decade before I was alive. The thrilling 80's wrestler was charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Nancy Argentino back in 1983. Horrible news to hear. (REPORT)
