The Phillies selected right-handed pitcher Matt Hockenberry from Temple University with the 262nd overall pick in the MLB Draft.
Hockenberry, who turns 23 in August, was a four-year starter for the Owls. In 2014, a midst the elimination of the baseball program, he went 5-6 with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP with 71 strikeouts in 93.1 innings of work in 15 games for Temple. He has a track record as he threw 281 innings in his four years at Temple.
The 6'3", 200 lbs. certainly has the build of a starter at the next level. He has four pitches in his repertoire with a four-seam fastball along with a cutter, curveball and a changeup. His cutter is his out-pitch.
The bonus allotment for the 262nd overall pick is $150,000.
