USA Today's Bob Nightengale spoke with Hamels about his situation with the Phillies and whether or not he wants a trade out of Philadelphia, something that has been rumored for a large portion of this winter.
He wants to be traded from the Philadelphia Phillies.
This is not a threat.
He is not demanding a trade.
He's not about to insult the Phillies, or say anything derogatory that would alienate himself from the only team that's employed him.
"I just want to win,'' Hamels told USA TODAY Sports in his first interview since the end of the 2014 season. "That's all. That's all any competitor wants.
"And I know it's not going to happen here.
"This isn't what I expected. It's not what the Phillies expected, either.
"But it's reality.''
Hamels still has four years and $90 million remaining on his contract with a $20 million team option and a $24 million vesting option for 2019.
