Darin Ruf was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley over the weekend to make room for bullpen arms thanks to the marathon games with the Mets. Many believed (read: hoped) he would be in Triple-A just a matter of days before returning to the Phillies to give Domonic Brown some competition in left field.
That does not appear to be the case.
Ruf was injured last night while trying to to run down a fly ball in foul territory. CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury reports Ruf suffered a sprained left wrist and a cut on his right knee that required stitches. He is believed to be headed for the disabled list. Video of the collision is below.
The news keeps going from bad to worse for the Phillies.
