The Eagles acquired Darren Sproles to add another dimension to their already lethal offense. And it only took one half to get him going. Sproles took the hand-off from Nick Foles on fourth-and-one early in the third quarter with the Eagles trailing 17-0. Hitting the hole with a burst of speed, Sproles had the first down and more. A great block from center Jason Kelce allowed the 31-year-old to hit the secondary and it was off to the races. Sproles opened the scoring for the Eagles 2014 campaign.
Head coach Chip Kelly said after the game that it was Sproles' touchdown that sparked the Eagles' comeback.
On the day, Sproles carried 11 times for 71 yards and that huge touchdown. He also caught four passes for 14 yards. The new dimension Sproles adds is going to be big for the Eagles as they will be able to get LeSean McCoy a few more breathers early in the game to keep him fresh for the fourth quarter.
“I was really, really impressed with him as a running back,” Kelly said on the WIP Morning Show yesterday. “And that’s what I’ve been saying since day one. He’s everything. To have him here is a huge boost for us.”
That's one game down. Now, it is time to turn their sights to the Indianapolis Colts next Monday night.
