The Phillies outfielder has been sidelined since suffering a concussion on July 23rd in St. Louis but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The Phillies announced that Brown will begin a rehab assignment tonight in Single-A Lakewood before moving to Double-A Reading tomorrow night. He is expected to return to the Phillies lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.
Brown, 25, has been a crucial piece in the Phillies lineup this season. The All-Star leftfielder is batting .271/.316/.531 with a team leading 24 home runs and a team high 69 RBIs in 99 games this season.
Just how important is Brown? The Phillies have won exactly one game since he got his concussion in July. One. That's it. He was a big reason why the Phillies hung in the race in the first part of the season. Turns out he might be a big reason why they have fallen 16.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East.
