The last Flyers team to make the Stanley Cup Finals was the 2009-2010 team that got into the playoffs in a shootout in the last game of the year. They took it down to the wire, got hot, beat the Devils in 5 games, Bruins in 7 games, and the Canadiens in 5 games to win the East. Through 56 games (2/8/10) the Flyers were 28-25-3 with 59 points. They were in eighth place in the East and they were already 29 points out of first place which was held by Washington with 88 points. They went 5-5 in their last ten games, scored 165 goals and allowed 150 goals. These numbers are not spectacular by any means but this team got hot and became nearly unbeatable. This year’s team is in much better shape. Through 56 games (2/14/12) the Flyers are 31-18-7 with 69 points. They are in fourth place in the East and are 10 points out of 1st place which is held by the Rangers with 79 points. They are 3-4-3 in their last ten games and have scored 182 goals while giving up 169 goals against. The Flyers have better numbers and are in a better position but have hit a slump. Whatever team gets hot at the right time (i.e. end of regular season/beginning of playoffs) is going to be the toughest team to beat. And at this point, that could be any team.
