In preparation for the Eagles' matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Jackson was asked about Tampa cornerback Darrelle Revis, who will likely be covering the Eagles' Pro-Bowl wideout. Jackson responded quite frankly, "I'm sure his coaches are confident in him. But I don't think he can run with me. I don't think he's as fast as me."
The wide receiver clarified that he did not mean any disrespect by the comment but he wasn't changing what he said, either.
Jackson, 26, has 28 catches for 525 yards and three touchdowns this season. His 525 receiving yards are good enough for fourth in the NFL, behind New Orleans' TE Jimmy Graham, Atlanta WR Julio Jones, and Baltimore WR Torrey Smith. He is on pace to shatter his career best of 1,156 receiving yards set in 2008.
I like Jackson's confidence but I really hope he backs it up. This scenario seems to me like he is "waking up the sleeping giant" which wouldn't be good for Nick Foles, if he does get the start on Sunday. Revis is the best cornerback in football regardless of whether or not he is as fast as Jackson.
