Now when it comes to the offense, Nick Foles threw for over 400 yards but his worst performance of the year since the Dallas game. Consistently over-throwing receivers on key drives, and just trigger shy (sacked 4 times). But the most glaring issue with the Eagles offense was the lack of Shady McCoy. Shady touched the ball 13 times Sunday. That's after his record setting performance in the snow. Out of those 13 touches, only 8 were runs. I know the Chiefs played in the later set of games, but I think Andy Reid stole the communications to Chip's headset. Yesterday was almost a haunting replay of an Andy Reid run game. Scary stuff.
Your Monday Morning Report Card is after the jump, but at least today, and for a few years we won't have to hear THAT DAMN HORN!
Make an adjustment Chip! Sure the Vikings were without their top secondary, but that doesn't mean throw it every play! You're running back just set the franchise record for rushing yards in a game and you give it to him 8 times? That makes absolutely 0 sense. Get ready for the Bears, because they are a much better team with actual household name players.
Nick Foles: D
Yes, he threw for 428 yards and 3 touchdowns, but it was a gameplan not suited for our savior, Nick. He seemed too tense out there. It's like he was aiming every pass instead of just letting it rip like he has been doing for the previous weeks. He overthrew a lot of his receivers and had a questionable read on his interception. A good game statistically, but the eye-test was poor. Also, Nick, what were you doing blocking a guy who couldn't have possibly caught up with DeSean. His costly personal foul blocking penalty cost the Eagles the chance to pull even with the Vikings early in the 2nd.
DeSean Jackson: A
Had a great game. He made up for his antics on the sideline with a beautiful over the shoulder catch for a touchdown as well as picking up some serious YAC during a crossing route in the second half. Jackson certainly had fire and wanted to win, and his 10 receptions showed that he was Foles' favorite target.
Zach Ertz: A
Beauty of a touchdown grab by Ertz.
Mychal Kendricks: A
Forced the only turnover of the game for a defense that couldn't seem to get a stop all game. He was also the leading tackler for the Eagles' D.
Trent Cole: B+
Aside from an offsides call, Trent Cole was flying around the backfield. Cole did a ton of damage to the running game of the Vikings, but was unable to make a difference when close to the goal line.
Fletcher Cox/Cedric Thornton: C-
Soooo where were you guys? These two have been great up the middle this year when stopping the run. When it came close to the goal line yesterday, they gave up 4 rushing touchdowns. 3 to Matt Asiata -yeah not Adrian Peterson, and 1 to Matt Cassell - who could have crawled in and not been touched. This defense has been bend - not break, but yesterday they broke down and left gaping holes.
The Secondary (Boykin, Williams, Chung, Carmichael, Anderson, Chung): F
Matt Cassell. Yeah, Matt Cassell. He completed 74% of his passes and started out 9 for 9. How do you let that happen? Greg Jennings had a career day hauling in 11 passes. More than he ever caught in a single game then when he had Aaron Rodgers throwing to him. Crucial Pass Interference calls, even questionable in nature, hurt the Eagles. They handed the Vikings a few scores due to penalties.
Special Teams: D
Brad Smith showed he can still be a dangerous returner. With Boykin hurt, and even if he's healthy, I think Chip needs to lean on Smith more in the last two weeks. But the Eagles strategy to keep the ball away from Cordarelle Patterson, while good in theory, might have given the Vikings better field position than if they had kicked to him every time. Henery has the ability to boot it out of the endzone, so why not try to limit Patterson to starting his returns from the back of the endzone? And last week was a fluke when it came to returns since the snow immobilized defenders on returns, so that should not have kept Chip to limiting his kickoff teams.
BONUS: The Viking Horn - F-----
It's the worst sound on earth. Almost Chelsea Dagger bad. Almost Atlanta Braves 'chop' bad.
