The Philadelphia Eagles have selected Louisville defensive end Marcus Smith with the 26th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Eagles acquired the 26th overall pick, along with the 83rd overall pick, from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the 22nd overall pick. The Browns selected Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel at No. 22.
Smith, 22, won the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2013. He recorded 14.5 sacks and forced four fumbles. Smith's 1.12 sacks-per-game lead the NCAA. The 6'3", 251 lbs. pass-rusher can also drop back in coverage as an outside linebacker. He has 34" arms and and ran a 4.68 at the NFL Combine.
Smith came into Philadelphia to interview with the Eagles, he was a top recruit coming out of high school and Chip Kelly personally attended his Pro Day at Louisville. In fact, Kelly pulled Smith aside to talk to him one-on-one.
