The Eagles announced on Wednesday they have released rookie running back David Fluellen. The 5'11", 224 lbs. back signed with the Eagles as an undrafted rookie from Toledo.
Fluellen, 22, played well in the team's first preseason game against the Chicago Bears rushing six times for 25 yards. He also caught a nice screen pass out of the backfield and took it 14 yards for a touchdown. He was injured last week causing him to miss Philadelphia's second preseason game on Friday against the Patriots.
The Eagles acquired running back Kenjon Barner last night from the Carolina Panthers for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Barner is expected to compete with Chris Polk, Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey for one of the backup running back slots behind LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles.
