The Philadelphia Eagles announced Friday they have signed newly acquired running back Darren Sproles to a two-year contract extension keeping Sproles in Philadelphia through the 2016 season. Financial details of the deal are not yet known at this time.
On Thursday, the New Orleans Saints have traded Sproles to the Eagles for a 2014 fifth-round pick. The team had two fifth round picks thanks to the Isaac Sopoaga trade with New England in the fall.
Sproles, who turns 31 in June, is one of the most dynamic receiving running backs in the NFL. He had rushed for only 220 yards last season in New Orleans but caught 71 passes for 604 yards and two touchdowns. He has put up 497 or more receiving yards in each of the last five seasons topping 600 yards in each of the last three. In the last three seasons, Sproles has caught seven touchdown passes twice.
He is a dynamic runner who gives Chip Kelly another weapon on offense.
