The Eagles announced Monday they signed fourth round pick Jaylen Watkins and fifth round pick Taylor Hart to their rookie contracts. Watkins and Hart are the third and fourth Eagles draft picks to sign their contracts joining wide receiver Josh Huff and defensive tackle Beau Allen. The only remaining unsigned picks are first round pick Marcus Smith, second round pick Jordan Matthews and fifth round pick Ed Reynolds.
Watkins, 21, started 28 career games in Gainesville with 22 of the starts coming at cornerback but shows versatility making six starts at safety. He is the half-brother of fourth overall pick Sammy Watkins out of Clemson. He is a strong defensive back against the run who plays a physical game. Watkins can fly as he ran a 4.41 40-yard dash and can immediately help on special teams as well.
Hart, 23, rejoins Chip Kelly and former Oregon defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro. The 6'6", 281 lbs. defensive end recorded 3.5 sacks and 75 tackles in 2013 with the Ducks. Hart put up better numbers in 2012 with Kelly and Azzinaro recording just 36 total tackles but 11 of them for losses and eight sacks.
Hart joins wide receiver Josh Huff as former Oregon Ducks who were selected by the Eagles in the 2014 Draft.
