The Eagles announced on Monday they have signed defensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva. What makes Villanueva standout, and it isn't his 6'9", 277 lbs. frame, it is that he is a U.S. Army Ranger and has been in active duty for four years which included three tours of duty in Afghanistan.
Villanueva has an impressive Army resume including Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the Ranger Tab, the Parachutist Badge, the Bronze Star Medal for overseas service, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge and Expert Infantryman’s Badge.
The 25-year-old played four years at the U.S. Military Academy spending his first two as a defensive lineman before switching to offensive line his junior year and finally ended his career as a wide receiver.
