The Eagles can add another receiver to the list of players with torn ACLs, joining wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. The team announced that newly acquired wide receiver Arrelious Benn suffered a torn ACL while serving as a blocker in a kickoff drill on Tuesday. The 6'2" 220 lbs. wide-out, who was acquired with a seventh round pick in March, looked like he might get the opportunity to step up into a contributing role with Maclin injured.
Benn, who turns 25 in September, caught four passes for 26 yards and no touchdowns in eight games last year. The 2010 second-round pick had caught at least 25 passes in each of his first two seasons for 395 and 441 yards, respectively. Benn was a top prospect coming out of high school and surprised a lot of people by opting to play football at the University of Illinois.
I followed this guy from high school through college and thought the trade to acquire him was going to be an impact move for the Eagles. Unfortunately we are going to have to wait a year to see what Benn can do in Kelly's offense. Tough blow to a receiving corps that has had a tough off-season, to say the least.
