A small change to take notice of for the 2013-2014 basketball season, the Big 5 got an update on their logo.
To the rankings. Villanova tops the rankings with two excellent home wins and I feel as if they have a slight edge over La Salle this year, but we will see when it comes time to play each other. Temple maintains the 4th spot for the sole reason that they beat Penn, but they have followed that up with two tough losses. Penn sits at the bottom, but that doesn't mean they will stay there. Sr Fran Dougherty, arguably Penn's best player, returns for his last year after missing most of last year due to an injury. Saint Joe's is smack dab right in the middle of this mix, but certainly have upward potential thanks to week one's BMOC Langston Galloway and fellow senior Ronald Roberts.
It's only been a week, but Philadelphia has some solid basketball teams playing this season. I predict that maybe 3 of these teams will end up dancing, but it could also be as low as just 1.
Big 5 Big Man on Campus - Week 1
Galloway is averaging 20.5 points through the first two games and has hit a total of 6 three's in those games. If he is able to keep up this rate of play for most of the season, it could be a very very good year for Phil Martelli and his Hawks.
The owls have new Big East member Creighton this week and they will certainly need both Galloway and Roberts to step up. Creighton star Doug McDermott is a force to be reckoned with averaging nearly 30 ppg in the early season.
