The Flyers announced on Wednesday they have reached a two-year affiliation agreement with the Reading Royals of the ECHL. It marks the first ECHL agreement the Flyers have reached since the Trenton Titans ceased operations following the 2012-13 season. The Royals had previously been affiliated with the Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings.
The addition of the Royals was announced at a press conference earlier in the day.
With the Phantoms moving from Adirondack to Allentown for the 2014-15 season, the addition of the Royals marks the first time since 1997-98 the Flyers have had all of their minor league teams based in Pennsylvania when they had the Philadelphia Phantoms and Johnstown Chiefs.
