"After consultation with respected concussion specialists Dr. Joseph Maroon and Dr. Micky Collins, it is the opinion of both doctors that Chris is suffering from severe post-concussion syndrome. It is the recommendation of doctors Maroon and Collins that Chris not return for the remainder of the 2011-12 season or playoffs. Chris will continue to receive treatment and therapy with the hope that he can get better."
Pronger’s status has been unknown for a while. He has been out since November 19th with a virus, knee injury, and concussion. The concussion started back in October when he first took a stick to the eye against the Maple Leafs. Needless to say, Holmgren has been withholding information from the public. It is assumed that the Flyers will look at temporary captains for the rest of the season. Kimmo Timonen and Danny Briere are obvious choices.
The team announced that Pronger would miss the rest of the season and the playoffs during the first period of the game. Andrej Meszaros found out during a post game interview with Steve Coates. The rest of the team found out in the locker room in Montreal.
