Flyers general manager Ron Hextall announced captain Claude Giroux suffered a lower-body injury at practice on Monday and will not play Wednesday night against the Rangers. Hextall said he thinks "it'll be days opposed to weeks" as far as Giroux's recovery.
Giroux, 26, has five goals and 16 assists for 21 points in 16 games so far this season playing on a line with Jakub Voracek and a rotating left winger ever since Michael Raffl went down with a lower-body injury. Giroux tied a career high with 28 goals last season and dished out 58 assists for 86 points in 82 games despite starting slow.
R.J. Umberger will likely replace Giroux on the Flyers top line.
