The Courier-Post's Dave Isaac reports defenseman Hal Gill is still paired with Mark Streit during the Flyers morning skate prior to Game 6 against the New York Rangers. All expectations prior to morning skate were Erik Gustafsson would replace Gill as the Flyers sixth defenseman filling in for the injured Nick Grossmann. It now appears Gustafsson will be scratched in favor of Gill.
Gill, 39, had a rough Game 5 for the Flyers as he missed an opportunity to pull the Flyers to within one goal late in the second period then, on the same shift, lost a pass in his skates that ended up with Dominic Moore scoring on Steve Mason to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead. It went from possibly 2-1 to 3-0 just like that and Gill caught the ire of fans.
Overall, Gill played 12:02 and was on the ice for two of the Rangers four goals. he played well at the end of the regular season which helped solidify his spot as the go-to guy on defense if the Flyers were to lose anyone to injury.
Things could change between now and tonight's puck drop but it appears Craig Berube is taking the same approach with Gill as he did with Jason Akeson that he won't allow one bad game determine their status for the next game.
In an elimination game, I don't care who is in as long as the Flyers win.
