Flyers head coach Craig Berube announced on Wednesday that defenseman Kimmo Timonen will not play Thursday night against the San Jose Sharks. Berube wanted to give the 38-year-old another few days rest after he spent his Olympic break leading Team Finland to the Bronze medal in Sochi.
The Flyers appeared to be hitting their stride as they entered the Olympic break. If they can continue to play strong hockey in the next month and a half, they will find themselves in the playoffs and that's where they will decide if this season will be deemed a success. In order to do that, they are going to need Kimmo Timonen fresh at the end of the season and (hopefully) the playoffs. Give him however long he needs as long as the Flyers can continue playing at a high level.
Timonen, who turns 39 on March 18th, has played well for the Flyers this season scoring two goals and adding 17 assists from the blue line while averaging 21:41 worth of ice time per game.
