Sports.ru's Igor Eronko is reporting Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson has agreed to a deal with Avangard Omsk of Russia's KHL. Gustafsson was slated to become a restricted free agent this summer.
Gustafsson, 25, played in a career-high 31 games this season for the Flyers scoring twice and registering eight assists. He lacks ideal size (5'10", 180 lbs.) but is a quick, puck-moving defenseman who plays solid on a third-pairing. The Flyers seem to be lukewarm towards Gustafsson as they opted to play Hal Gil over him in Game 5 against the Rangers when Nicklas Grossmann went down with an ankle injury. Gustafsson eventually played in Game 6 and scored a big goal to force a Game 7 against New York.
Since Gustafsson is slated to become a restricted free agent, the Flyers can still extend a qualifying offer to him to retain his rights should he want to come back and play in the NHL.
