This is the goaltender edition! Based on the information below, would you rather have goaltender A or goaltender B?
Let's add their salary for the 2014-15 season.
As you might've guessed by the salary cap figures or any of the other numbers, Goaltender A is current Flyers goaltender Steve Mason.
Goaltender B is former Flyers goaltender and current Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
Now people have been going wild about the trade that sent Bobrovsky to Columbus in exchange for peanuts for a year and a half at this point. His strong play in the shortened season last year won him the Vezina which added fuel to the fire. One thing to remember is Bobrovsky played well in the first half of the 2010-11 season too before wearing out - in short, the shortened season helped him.
The issue might not have been the actual trade of Bobrovsky because, if you're being honest with yourself, no one really thought this kid would win the Vezina at the age of 24.
The true issue is the Flyers impatience with developing young talent. Something they are hopefully overcoming with Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn.
Either way, general manager Paul Holmgren sent the peanuts back to Columbus in exchange for Mason last April. According to their stats this season, Holmgren might've done a good job of patching up the wound left from the trade of Bobrovsky.
