The Flyers announced on Saturday Ray Emery will be the Flyers starting goaltender in Game 2 on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Cal Heeter, who was sent down to join the Phantoms in Hershey, will travel back to New York to backup Emery. Mason is currently listed as day-to-day.
Emery played well in Game 1 stopping 32 of 36 shots fired his way in the 4-1 loss. None of the goals were what we would label "bad" goals and he didn't stand a chance on any of the three third-period goals. Even after the loss, Emery is still 7-3-0 against the Rangers in his career.
Mason's injury happened in the second period of the Flyers' 4-3 overtime victory over the Penguins last Saturday. Pittsburgh forward Jayson Megna drove Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald hard into Mason. The 25-year-old netminder finished out the period but was replaced by Emery to start the third period.
Mason practiced Friday and Saturday in New York with hopes of playing in Game 2. It looks like his sights will be set on Game 3 on Tuesday in Philadelphia.
