One of the reasons that they Flyers have three wins is thanks to the stellar play of goaltender Steve Mason who has allowed only four goals in those three wins. In fact, Mason has only allowed 17 goals in eight games so far this season.
For once, the Flyers are getting stellar goaltending.
Mason currently boasts a 2.15 GAA and a .930 save percentage in eight starts this season. The .930 SV% is the second highest in franchise history for any goaltender who has played in seven or more games trailing only his own .944 mark in his seven starts last season.
The franchise record for SV% over the course of a season belongs to Roman Cechmanek who posted a 1.83 GAA and a .925 SV% in 58 games in 2002-03. He also holds the second best mark with .921 SV% in both 2000-01 and 2001-02. It's a shame his teammates hated him and he came up lame in the playoffs.
But back to Mason - he is playing great and it seems like the Flyers will ride him as long as possible. The good news is that the Flyers keep getting these three-or-so day breaks between games giving him enough time to rest up.
Come to think of it can you remember the last time Ray Emery played? It's been a while - 17 days to be exact.
