Through the team's first seven games of the season, they are 1-6-0 having two three-game losing streaks already this season. They are the only team in the NHL that has not scored three or more goals in a game so far this season and have been held to just one goal in four games already.
The power play has been atrocious as they haven't scored a power play goal since the second game of the year. The Flyers went 0-for-2 Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks to make them 0-for-17 on the power play in their last five games and 2-for-29 on the season.
So everything is bleak? Not quite.
The Flyers called up winger Tye McGinn over the weekend following Scott Hartnell's injury and the rookie has made an impact so far. In two games with the Flyers, he has registered three goals including the team's only two goals against the Canucks. McGinn joins Dave Poulin as the only Flyers rookies to register two or more goals in their first two games of the season - Poulin had two goals in two games in 1982-83.
McGinn played in 18 games last year registering three goals and two assists while averaging 12:43 of ice time. This year, to go along with his three goals, McGinn is seeing valuable ice time on the Flyers top line with Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek as he is averaging 18:05 of ice time in his two games so far.
The Flyers need more production from players other than McGinn. It would be nice if that production started Thursday against the Penguins.
