Newly extended captain Claude Giroux, along with rookie Jason Akeson, have stepped up their training regimen at the Greco Lean + Fit Gym in Ottawa. The Flyers released a few photos of their two forwards working hard this off-season preparing for the first full 82 game season since 2011-12.
Giroux, 25, is coming off a decent season in which he netted 13 goals and dished out 35 assists for 48 points in 48 games. He is two years removed from his dominant 28 goal, 65 assist, 93 point season in 2011-12 when he also added eight goals and nine assists in 10 playoff games. He was rewarded this off-season with a new eight-year, $66.2 million deal that will keep him with the orange and black through 2022.
Akeson, 23, is a young forward with a lot of scoring potential as he has led the Adirondack Phantom in points in each of the last two seasons. Last year he scored 20 goals and added 33 assists for 53 points in 62 games before making his NHL debut in the final regular season game in his hometown of Ottawa. Akeson scored his first NHL goal on his first NHL shot against Ottawa's Craig Anderson. Akeson is signed for next year with a base-salary of $740,000 and a cap hit of $900,000.
Hockey will be here before we know it.
