ESPN's Pierre LeBrun is reporting that the Flyers and captain Claude Giroux are nearing an eight-year extension worth more than $8 million per year. TSN's Darren Dreger reports thatthe number is closer to $8.3 million which would put the total deal at eight-years, $66.4 million.
Giroux was named captain prior to the 2013 season and, despite having a "down year," put up 13 goals and 35 assists for 48 points in 48 games. He had a dominant year in 2011-12 where he scored 28 goals and added 65 assists for 93 points in 77 games. He followed that up with eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 10 postseason games.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ecstatic right now. Giroux is a superstar in the making and now he will be doing it with the Flyers. I love it.
