Read leads all Flyers with 24 shots on goal, six more than the next closest Flyer, yet he does not have a goal this season. Not only has Read been held without a goal, he has been held without a point which is surprising for the offensively-gifted forward.
Read told CSN Philly that he is "still confident" in his game and will continue to work hard. The 27-year old had gone through a similar drought while playing at Bemidji State and remembered his college coach's words that he needs to go to the net because that is where the goals are scored.
The Flyers signed Read to a four-year, $14.5 million contract extension in September. As a rookie in 2011-12, he had a breakout performance as he led all rookies with 24 goals and also added 21 assists. Obviously his numbers dropped in 2013 with the lockout-shortened season but he still managed 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points in 42 games. Some believe he returned too soon from torn muscles in his ribcage.
He isn't the only Flyer struggling to score so I think when he turns it around, the team will too (or vice versa).
