The Flyers announced on Friday they have re-signed 39-year-old defenseman Kimmo Timonen to a one-year contract extension. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Finnish Olympian has been one of the most consistent players on the Flyers blue line for the last seven seasons. In 77 games this season, Timonen scored six goals and added 29 assists for 35 points. In seven seasons in Philadelphia, he has scored 38 goals and dished out 232 assists for 270 points. The 232 assists are 10 more than he had in eight seasons in Nashville.
It will truly be a shame if Kimmo Timonen does not get to hoist the Cup once in his career. He has conducted himself with class and dignity on and off the ice. Timonen has been a real ambassador for the Flyers and hopefully will get one more go for the Stanley Cup.
