Flyers general manager Ron Hextall announced on Wednesday the Flyers have signed French winger Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to an NHL contract.
Bellemare, 29, has played the last five seasons in the Swedish Hockey League playing for Skelleftea. In 2013-14 the left winger scored 20 goals and dished out 15 assists for 35 points in 52 games. The 6'0", 196 lbs. winger also played for France in the 2014 IIHF World Championships scoring three goals and adding five assists in eight games.
An added bonus for signing Bellemare could be that he scored the game-winning shootout goal for France in their victory over Team Canada.
According the EliteProspects, Bellemare could be exactly what the Flyers are looking for on the wing.
An offensive winger who plays in high speed. Has good stickhandling ability and a good shot. Finds open space well and always works hard. A good penalty killer. Can also play center effectively, thanks to a strong two-way game.
You have to wonder what a guy like Jason Akeson is thinking when he sees a move like this.
