CSN Philly's Sarah Baicker reports Flyers winger Steve Downie has been cleared to play following a concussion suffered in a fight on November 1st with Capitals winger Aaron Volpatti. He will be a game time decision tonight against the Ottawa Senators.
Downie was acquired two weeks ago from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for gritty forward Max Talbot. He was injured in his first game back with the Flyers. Downie played 15 shifts getting 10:24 of ice time registering a team-high four hits and two shots on goal. Downie also led all Flyers skaters with 17 penalty minutes.
In 11 games this year with Colorado, he has one goal and six assists with 36 penalty minutes, eighth most in the NHL. Downie will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and carries a $2.65 million cap hit.
On a pure talent level, the Flyers won this trade but it depends what they can get out of Downie. They might get their second look at Downie tonight at the Canadien Tire Centre in Ottawa.
