Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan has issued a four-game suspension to Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo for his hit to the head of Sabres defenseman Chad Ruhwedel in last night's 5-2 Flyers' victory.
Rinaldo appeared to leave his feet as his shoulder made contact with Ruhwedel's head. Play continued as Ruhwedel struggled to get up off the ice and stumbled his way to the Sabres bench before play was blown dead.
"I shouldn’t have done it," Rinaldo said after the game. "There was no need for it. We were up 4-0. There was no need for that hit but it is what it is. It’s a part of the game.”
Unfortunately it is "part of the game" but the league is trying to take it out of the game. That's why Rinaldo will be watching the next four games from the pressbox.
