“There are other times when Weaver's body - not to mention the calendar - tells him he will have to live without the game, times when the memory of the overwhelming pain makes him wonder whether any sane person would risk another injury like the one he suffered, even supposing he could get his left foot working normally.”
Bowen kept it nice and leaving a slight glimmer of hope. Barry Petchesky of Deadspin.com was more direct and to the point with their analysis. Besides the “Leonard Weaver Will Never Play Football Again” headline, he delves deeper,
“Weaver says there's no chance he'll be back for 2012, and after that he'll be 31 and won't have played in three years, so by any realistic projection, his NFL days are done. He comes across as at peace with this, and there's a silver lining: Weaver met his fiancée near his home in Florida, during what should have been football season.”
This news is unfortunate but not a surprise. Weaver’s injury was a devastating one to watch let alone assume someone can come back to play at such a high level. Weaver is a good guy and we wish him all the best of luck in his recovery.
