One team stands out as a real option for Briere: the Montreal Canadiens. ESPN reports that the Canadiens were one of the teams to talk to Briere and his agent, Pat Brisson, last night.
Briere is a native of Gatineau, Quebec and famously spurned the Canadiens in 2007 to sign with the Flyers. Over the years, Briere has been booed mercilessly at the Bell Centre - most notably, in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2010.
The 35 year old was limited with injuries last season scoring six goals and adding 10 assists. Arguably his best season with the orange and black was in 2010-11 when he scored 34 goals and dished out 34 assists for 68 points and a career high +/- mark of plus-20. Briere spent more time with the Flyers (six full seasons) than any other team in his professional career and was a fan favorite during his time in Philadelphia.
